Military engine maintenance for the RM12

Volvo Aero has been the depot-level maintenance facility for the Swedish Armed Forces as well as other military operators for many years.

Today, we have full overhaul capability for the RM12 engine in the Gripen fighter, including repair and test of both engines and accessories.

We work in close association with the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) and front-line operators. Our common objective is to reduce cost of ownership.

An on-condition maintenance concept is employed for RM12 engine. This means there are no fixed overhaul intervals. The condition of the engine determines when a maintenance activity should be carried out. The document governing all such activities is the Maintenance Plan. It's concept is built on a strict failure mode and effects analysis and an early detection system (MSG 3).

Prerequisites for an on-condition maintenance policy are the capability to detect failures, a modular design, and an engine condition monitoring system (ECMS).
