Lufthansa Technik and Volvo Aero start cooperation in engine parts repair

A general agreement between Lufthansa Technik AG and Volvo Aero Corporation regarding cooperation in the field of engine parts repair was signed in Trollhättan, Sweden, on June 22.

The two companies will jointly develop new repair methods for mainly structural parts of large commercial aircraft engines within the capability of Lufthansa Technik. Additionally, the partners will also cooperate in the appropriate certification processes, the repair services and the marketing and sales activities for this business.

“The target of this cooperation is to combine the forces of two leading specialists in engine parts repair to develop new and highly valuable repair methods to the benefit of our customers,” said Daniel Gross, Director Sales and Business Development, Engine Parts Repair at Lufthansa Technik.
“With our partner Volvo Aero, who is a reputable original component manufacturer, specialised in structural components, we will be able to complete and update our engine parts repair portfolio. With the long lasting design know-how and its engineering capabilities Volvo Aero is the right partner for us to further develop this important business.”

Volvo Aero will with this agreement take an important step in the commercialisation of development and performance of engine parts repairs.

”Lufthansa Technik’s extensive knowledge about the market and the operators’ needs in this area will be the base for the selection of repairs. Together we aim to reduce the operators’ engine maintenance cost by providing unique repair solutions,”

Repair services is a newly established business at Volvo Aero, which brings together all the well established capabilities of the company. Development of repairs will be jointly made at Volvo Aero in Trollhättan and at Lufthansa Tehnik in Hamburg. Generally, the approval of common developments will occur by the Lufthansa Technik EASA Part 21 design organisation. Repairs will be made at Volvo Aero and Lufthansa Technik.
