Bachelor of Science Industrial Design Engineering

I was born in 1986 and grew up outside Frändefors in the south of Dalsland. Today I live outside Grästorp together with my fiancé. After senior high school I had a one year interruption from my studies and after that I was once again looking forward to continue my education.

I have always been interested in the classical engineering subjects such as mathematics and physics but at the same time also been attracted to try new and unfamiliar subjects. It was therefore I decided to apply to the B.Sc.-program in Industrial Design Engineering at Chalmers. It is an interdisciplinary education that combines the more traditional engineering subjects (mostly in mechanics) with user-centered product development. I found the courses in materials technology and solid mechanics extra interesting and inspired by that I decided to continue my education with a M.Sc. in Advanced Engineering Materials.

During the final summer holidays from Chalmers I went to Nice and studied French at an international language school. I did my master’s thesis at Asko Appliances AB in Jung; the project was about color deviations and variations in the results of the varnishing process where details to different kinds of appliances were powder coated.

In this project I found it interesting to, among others, experience how six sigma-methodology can be applied to a real industrial process. If I am to present some of my more personal interests I must mention that I am very interested in equestrian sport, I do train and compete in dressage myself.

My interest in advanced materials that are exposed to extreme conditions made it natural for me to apply to the Young Graduate program. I see it as a great opportunity for me as recently graduated to have the possibility to receive insight in what activities that are performed and how the daily work is administrated at different departments, both for the sake of my own knowledge but also to receive inspiration for my future career.

At the moment, I am in the beginning of my first work placement period. I am doing this period at the Materials Technology department which is also the department where I will work after the completion of the program. Till now, my work at this department has mostly consisted of sample preparation and microscopy.

The program did however start with a shorter period in production. I was then in the workshop where the rotating details are manufactured and I followed the whole manufacturing process for the details. I really look forward to doing three more work placement periods at Volvo Aero and a final period abroad!
